Boat Quay

Night shots with this lens was easy, much credit to Canon's innovative 2nd generation IS technology coupled with excellent high ISO (low noise) performance of the 30D. Most of these shots were taken at slow shutter speed ranging from 1/4s to 1/15s even at ISO1600. The range of focal length was useful for easy framing and composition.

Taken during a recent visit to Singapore Yacht Club.

Just minutes after buying this lens, I manage to put it to the test. It's easy to use this lens on AI Servo, focusing lock is fast and the USM really make it fast and silent. Sharpness, contrast and colour rendition is top of class! The aperture of f4.0 does not pose any problem through the event.

I was torn between the choice of getting the EF-S 17-55mm/f2.8 IS USM and this. Nevertheless, I chose this lens for its longer reach (105mm) and with the 'L' designation, it is definitely worth its price. Although this lens is targetted and almost dedicated to those on full frame sensors, I find it no lacking in anyway on my Canon 30D (1.6X crop factor). Yes, at 24mm it is not wide enough for most landscape shots, but I do gain the extra reach without resorting to another range of lens, which is typically complemented by the 70-200/2.8 L USM (or IS USM). Handholding with this lens is just perfect, and easy. With the 2nd generation Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, it has become quite an ideal lens in everyway for my type of photography albeit the f4.0 max aperture.

I did complement the wider angles with the excellent Tokina 12-24mm/f4 ATX Pro.

I shall be posting images taken with only with this lens in this blog. Enjoy! Please feel free to drop me your comments. Thank you for visiting.
